Pedestrian Struck by Vehicle Pronounced Dead

Unfortunately, after the many celebrations that brought in the new year, tragedy struck just hours later in south Austin. On the early morning of New Year's Day 2012, a pedestrian was killed near Slaughter and IH-35 while attempting to cross the street.

According to the Austin American-Statesman, the unidentified individual was crossing the street with a friend just after 5:00am when one of the two individuals was struck by a pick-up truck. While one friend made their way across the street safely, the individual struck by the pick-up truck was pronounced dead at the scene. Austin police are currently investigation the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident.
