Round Rock, Texas, located in both Travis and Williamson Counties, is situated 15 miles north of Austin, TX in the Central Texas hill country region. Round Rock started as a small community in 1851 on the banks of Brushy Creek. The name comes from a round rock in the creek that marked a convenient low-water crossing. The community was originally called Brushy Creek, but was re-named Round Rock in 1854.

Round Rock, Texas was the location of the gunfight with the notorious train robber, Sam Bass, by the Texas Rangers in 1878. The event, known as the "Sam Bass Shootout," is recreated each year in downtown Round Rock.

The U.S. Census Bureau lists Round Rock's 2007 population at 85,152 residents. Families made up 75 percent of the households in the city. The median income of households in Round Rock city was $67,492.

In 2008, Money Magazine named Round Rock as the 7th best American small city to live in. The city won this prestigious accolade, along with many others, due to Round Rock's affordable housing, excellent schools, and computer maker, Dell, which has established its headquarters here. Round Rock's residents enjoy an excellent quality of life with numerous employment and career opportunities. Future job growth over the next 10 years is predicted to be an impressive 33 percent. The increased tax revenue from major companies such as Dell and Toppan Photomasks has been used for public school and infrastructure enhancements to create an ideal community for families.

The city is within the Round Rock Independent School District. According to the 2008 ratings from the Texas Education Agency, the Round Rock Independent School District ranks among the best in the state. Total enrollment was 40,398 for the 2007-2008 school year. A campus of Texas State University is located in the city.

Medical centers providing health care services to Round Rock, TX include St. David's Round Rock Medical Center, Scott & White Memorial Hospital and the Seton Medical Center-Williamson.

Round Rock is called the Sports Capital of Texas. Nolan Ryan's Round Rock Express, a minor league baseball team, is based in the city. Games are played at the Dell Diamond. The Dell Diamond also hosts other amateur sporting events, concerts and shows. The city is seeking to attract more tournaments and sporting events to the town. Major roadways serving the area include Interstate 35, State Highway 45, State Highway 130 and U.S. Highway 183. The Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is less than 40 minutes away.
